Principal's Welcome

A very warm welcome to Japanese International School (JIS). As you consider the right educational path for your child, I am delighted to share what makes our school such a unique and inspiring place to grow. At JIS, we believe that a truly exceptional education should be holistic, globally-minded and personal. We are a community built on our core values of Kindness, Commitment, and Respect, and our commitment is to foster a school culture where these values are lived every day. Our deep dedication lies in knowing every child, not just as a student, but as an individual with their own unique talents and capacity to thrive.

As a fully authorised IB World School since 2007, we use the Primary Years Programme (PYP) as our curriculum framework to deliver an education of the highest standard. Guided by the IB Learner Profile, we do more than just teach lessons; we design learning experiences that inspire children to wonder, explore, and take meaningful action. Our most recent evaluation in May 2025 received high acclaim, confirming our position as a leader in international education in Hong Kong. We believe in teaching children how to think, rather than what to think. By encouraging curiosity and independence, we help our students discover their own answers and build the confidence they need for academic success and a lifelong love of learning.

What sets JIS apart is our small, supportive community within a global city. Our classrooms are led by highly qualified international teachers who bring expert teaching methods to our students. To ensure every child is seen, heard and supported, our teachers are further strengthened by a full-time Educational Assistant in every classroom. This high adult-to-student ratio allows our teachers to provide deeper, more personalised instruction for every learner. Our vibrant specialist program, including Mandarin, Japanese, Outdoor Education, STEM, Music, Physical Education (including swimming) and various after-school activities, is delivered by passionate educators who help students grow their talents. All of these resources are focused on one goal: supporting the development of the "whole child" while maintaining high academic standards.

Our campus offers a unique green sanctuary in Hong Kong, where students develop a love for the outdoors. Children at JIS are empowered to take care of our planet, using our excellent facilities to explore issues that affect their lives both locally and globally. This journey is supported by a seamless "through-train" educational pathway. Through our direct partnership with International College Hong Kong (ICHK), our students enjoy an automatic transition to Year 7. This ensures a stable, supportive and continuous journey from their first steps in early childhood through to university preparation.

We know that happy children learn best, and well-being is the cornerstone of our educational foundation. Our students are motivated and open-minded individuals who love to be creative and active.
