Admission Procedure

Admission to JIS is based on an interview which takes place with the school Principal and /or a group of the class teachers. The main requirement for entry to the school is based on a students' ability to comfortably access our curriculum using English. The school does sometimes offer EAL (English as an Additional Language) support but the proprtion of students accepted for this progamme is limited.

Interviews are held only when places are available but can be arranged at any point during the school year should a vacancy arise. Interviews for Reception and some Primary 1 places are held as group interviews (JIS playdates!) with several children attending at the same time. This allows the children to feel more relaxed and to be able to enjoy some time with a group of our teachers in a fun / play orientated situation. These interviews usually last for around 1 hour. Parents are informed of the results of their interview as quickly as possible, usually within the next few days, or on the day of the interview.

Application for Reception and Primary 1 classes is encouraged at least the year before required entry as interviews are held in January of the admission year for an August start.

Application and interview fee is HK$ 600 - due on application to the school (by on-line payment).

2) Once the form is completed the school will contact you for an interview - should a space be available.

3) Interviews are held in the school and are usually around one hour in duration. The interview will contain assessments on reading, writing, ability in oral English and a general discussion. These interviews are usually held with the school principal, Mr. Blue. Group interviews are held for students for the Reception Class and Primary 1 and are aimed at being more relaxed - playdate style.

4) Once the interview is completed Mr. Blue will meet with the parents to discuss the school and also the interview. The school will try to inform the family as soon as possible after the interview - this is usually within the next few days, except for group interviews for Reception and P1 class.

We look forward to the opportunity to meet with you and your child.
