JIS - Japanese International School, Hong Kong

All parents of students attending the English section of JIS are automatically members of the English Section Staff and Parent Association (ESSPA).

As defined in our constitution, the purpose of ESSPA is to enhance the educational and learning experiences of the students of the English Section of the Japanese International School of Hong Kong.

ESSPA organizes a variety of events and initiatives, such as the Welcome Back BBQ and this handbook.  The BBQ is held each September to welcome new families to the JIS community and to give returning families an opportunity to catch up after the summer -a fun evening for everyone.

Regular communication with parents is via letters,  e-mail, notices posted on the ESSPA bulletin boards, Principal’s weekly newsletter and the JIS Website located at http://es.jis.edu.hk.

Please note that ESSPA does not have an oversight function and any parental concerns about classroom activities or curriculum should be directed to the classroom teacher and/or the administration

Like all associations, there are a number of procedures and official requirements: one important legal requirement is the annual election of a Board of Directors – parents who represent the parents and the children of the school.  We hope all parents consider standing for a position during your time at JIS.

The new ESSPA board will usually be formed in June.  A letter explaining the process will be sent to parents from the Elections Officer.  Support of two thirds of parents is required to confirm the new board.
