Music is taught by a specialist music teacher at JIS. All students receive 2 music lessons per week based on the areas of performance, appreciation and composition. We actively encourage the development of musical skills in our students. Our music teacher also arranges extra-curricular music tuition for those students who may be interested in learning a musical instrument. We currently offer a very wide range of options for our students to have both individual or small group tuition. We encourage the students to develop an enjoyment and appreciation of music as well having fun creating and composing music of their own. Our students are provided opportunities to develop the skills of notation and to perform through singing and playing instruments. Our programme is designed to compliment our PYP Programme of Inquiry and where opportunities allow, the work is integrated into a common approach. Many of our students perform in local music festivals arrange dboth privately and through school. The music department has an active choir made up of a range of students from all our classes and a variety of ensemble groups and duets. These perform at school concert evenings and also during our school assembly times. |
