All parents of students attending the English section of JIS are automatically members of the English Section Staff and Parent Association (ESSPA).
As defined in our constitution, the purpose of ESSPA is to enhance the educational and learning experiences of the students of the International Section of the Japanese International School of Hong Kong.
ESSPA organizes a variety of events and initiatives, such as the Welcome Back BBQ, lunches, fundraising events and many more. The BBQ is held each September to welcome new families to the JIS community and to give returning families an opportunity to catch up after the summer -a fun evening for everyone.
Regular communication with parents is via letters, e-mail, notices posted on the ESSPA bulletin boards, Principal's weekly newsletter and the JIS Website located at www.jis.edu.hk
Please note that ESSPA has a key role in the social activities of the school community and any parental concerns about classroom activities or curriculum should be directed to the classroom teacher and/or the school administration.
Like all associations, there are a number of procedures and official requirements: one important legal requirement is the annual election of a Board of Directors – parents who represent the parents and the children of the school. We hope that all parents may consider standing for a position of Board member or volunteer during their time at JIS.
The new ESSPA board will usually be formed in June. A letter explaining the process will be sent to parents from the Elections Officer. Support of two thirds of parents is required to confirm the new board.
